Going to La Pine is never easy and getting a win in the Eagles home gym was even more elusive for teams in the Mountain Valley Conference this year. The Billies were the only league opponent to go into the Eagles gym and win, and the Billies were able to do it not once but twice. On top of that, the Billies got the win Thursday night without starting Sophomore post, Alexa Ellis who sat the game out due to an ankle injury.
The Billies, down by one, rebounded a La Pine missed free throw. Senior guard, Hannah Way rushed the ball up the floor and passed to Sophomore Angeni Yeo who attacked baseline. Yeo was cut off by two Eagle defenders and skipped it out to her teammate, Junior Kaylee Martin. With 1 second on the clock, Martin launched a three for the win. With ice in her veins, she drained the 3 to give the Billies a two point lead and the 39-37 win over the stunned Eagles.
The Billies were lead by Martin who scored 14 points. Hannah Way added 10 points and two clutch free throws down the stretch to bring the Billies within one setting up the eventual game winner.
The Billies are back in action on Saturday, February 23rd for a home playoff game. Their opponent is to be determined still, as the rankings don’t freeze until this Saturday night at 10:30.
