Coed Varsity Wrestling · Eight Wrestlers Advance to State Tournament


Eight Billies wrestlers will compete for Oregon 3A titles at the OSAA Championships this Friday and Saturday. The state tournament will be held at Veteran’s Memorial Coliseum in Portland. The 3A session will run Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm. Saturday’s session will begin at 8:30am with finals at 7:00pm.

Results from the Special District #2 Championships hosted by Pleasant Hill:

District Champions:

Freshmen Jackson O’Connor captured the 113 lb. title with a technical fall over Asher Tindall of Yamhill-Carlton. Jack earned the #4 seed at the state tournament and will wrestle Jimmie Huffman of Burns in the first round.

Senior Titus Rice won the 145 lb title with a technical fall over Brynden Bevins of Harrisburg. Titus is the #1 Seed and has a first round bye at the tournament.

Sophomore Asher Ruchti captured the 160 lb division with an 11-5 victory over Adam Stratemeyer of Scio. Asher will be the #2 seed at the state tournament. His first round match will be against Michael Winn of Burns.

2nd Place:

Senior Jake Pray lost a close 6-2 decision to Riley Suttles of Harrisburg. Suttles is the #3 seed in the tournament. Jake’s first round match is against Christian Murdock of Nyssa.

3rd Place:

The 3rd place finishers and state qualifiers are Skylar Peters (138), Logan Parrish (160), Kellen Parrish (220), and Gavin Cantamessa (285).

Skylar defeated Jaime Garcia (Yamhill-Carlton), 17-6, in the third place match. The Parrish brothers also qualified for the state tournament with an excellent showing. Senior Logan Parrish pinned Nick Kubishita and brother Kellen earned a bye into the tournament. First year wrestler and senior Gavin Cantamessa pinned Corbin Allison of Creswell in the first round.

5th Place:

Junior Sam Baker placed fifth at the district tournament to help the Billies to a fourth place finish in the team race. Scio HS won the team title with 205.5 points.
